“Troubadours” has been inspired by the medieval social occasions, habits and hobbies of people in those days.
Restless circus parades, unsteady traveling musicians, binge and carousals, sophisticated masks and costumes, old playing cards, or the fleshpot of Venetian masks... People hiding their personalities trough coquetry and mystic, concealing behind masks, like behind the shield, (which was Ensor's inspiration to re-image the same subject repeatedly) All of this was what intrigued me.
