Syrian Refugee Data

Originally an individual data visualization project, my classmate Raj and I decided to team up to create a bigger picture of what's happening in Syria right now.
My poster focuses on the effects of civil war on Syrian citizens  and the reactions of the bordering countries.
My partner focused on the numbers and destinations of Syrians seeking refuge abroad.
PROCESS
The project started with a general overview of the conflict in Syria, looking for large datasets to generate graphics. Originally working independently, I was attempting to cover both the conditions Syrians seeking refuge abroad and those remaining within the country. However, it soon became clear that it was too broad a focus for one poster to illustrate effectively. A classmate was working in a similar vein, and we decided to pool our research and create our posters as a series. While it was certainly a challenge to develop a common visual structure across our work, it allowed us both to elaborate on our topics in greater detail.
The left iterations were the last ones before we decided to team up. The right iterations show our first after the decision, where we begin to experiment with a common form language.
