A style of a mandala I personally created for someone. I wanted to include elements that they enjoyed, such as The Millennium Falcon from Star Wars and things seen on the billboards of the city such as travel advertisements and bottles 'cheers'ing. I also purposely made the mandala as symmetrical as possible, but wanted to juxtapose this with a contrast between nature and city life, exhibited by things such as the mountains against the city scape. An owl drawing for a magazine cover for an assignment at university. I wanted to create something with obvious shape from a distance but with a lot of detail when you get up close. Colours altered on Photoshop. (2016)
This was a piece from my Body of Work in Year 12. Sunflowers being the happiest of flowers as well as my favourite flower inspired me to draw one of my own. I've filled the leaves with patterns referencing nature and the ocean, as well as spiritual elements like the third eye. Using only small amounts of yellow not only make the intention of a sunflower more evident, but also represent the happiness the flower brings and that nature passes on to those who are willing to notice. This work was also a part of my Body of Work in the Higher School Certificate (2014). The Tree of Life alludes to the interconnection of all life on our planet. Using symbols such as the third eye and the style of zentangle, a meditative form of art, I've also connected the life on Earth to spirituality. Use of organic lines shows the smooth, flowing nature of the world and spurts of green further emphasise this. The Earth in the center of the trunk additionally references to interconnection of life and use of alchemy elemental symbols show the linking of the four natural elements.
A series of works completed to draw attention to animal cruelty. The whale representing the horror of whaling, 'Be Kind' is just a simple message to consider when choosing products and companies you give your money to and support, the wolf represents the wolf slaughters that were occurring during the year and finally the fish to represent the over fishing problem we have. The concept of Yin and Yang has always fascinated me and I wanted to represent this philosophical symbol with connections to nature. References to nature including leaves, mountains and the moon are used. Along with free flowing lines and shapes these elements of the natural world are connected. The concept of contrary forces being in-fact complementary is shown through the subtle inclusion of squares and rectangles to represent industry and city life. This work shows that the opposites of city life and nature in-fact do connect and when used harmoniously can be beautiful. (2013)
