Benetton Live Windows
Working with Environment and Space
"Benetton Live Windows is a project conceived and developed by Fabrica, Benetton’s research centre on communication. The Benetton stores become intelligent places for a new language between people and place. Technology is the key to trigger new experiences in the retail space. Fabrica invites prestigious universities and design schools from all over the world to join its network and get global visibility for the creativity of their students. Their works are published on the Benetton Live Windows."

Our university was approached by Fabrica, and this is my entry to the Live Windows project. The concept behind this is that of colour and unity. I asked people to draw a smiley face on a piece of paper, and collected around 250 different smiley faces. Each of these were unique to the people who drew them. I then animated them all to fall down, build up and reveal the Benetton logo, giving the impression that it takes all kinds of people to unite to create something, the Benetton experience in this case. If Benetton had chosen this idea, they could ask people who come into the store to draw a smiley face that would then be displayed on the windows, or they could create Facebook and Twitter groups where people upload a smiley face and have it displayed in the windows. This not only is a fun idea, but will also encourage people to visit Benetton stores, in the hopes that they will see their smiley face; similar to the "five minutes of fame" concept. The concept could be adapted to a number of public holidays including Valentines Day (hearts instead of faces, with a pink colour scheme) or Halloween (pumpkins with an orange colour scheme).
