In the spring of 2016 YAAY was invited to present its work at the Grafik16 exhibition. The annual event attracts thousands of visitors every year to Zurich. It is the biggest platform for graphic design und visual forms of expression in Switzerland. To let the visitors experience our approach to data visualization we developed an interactive poster. On the one hand it should convey the philosophy of YAAY and on the other hand create the opportunity for visitors to get into conversations at the booth. How can we get passers-by to participate? What can we find out about the participants using a playful approach? Based on the proven YAAY analog tool method for interactive visual data collection, we inquired about six opposites grouped in pairs. The visitor found out about their character type in a direct, reflective manner. Dimensions were either related to design such as colorful versus black and white, or to personal preference e.g. cats or dogs. Through the placement of circular stickers – our so called bubbles – you could place and thus define your personal type. Different target groups were assigned their own bubble color. The result is an interactive tool to find out what type of creative you are. Numerous engaged visitors placed their bubbles and started interesting conversations. To show how „visual exploration“ [Tominski, 2006] and the closely coupled analysis are facilitated with our analog tool, we filtered the data by color and structured it visually. The written statements of key findings and the created infographics complement the analog poster. Read Less
