NLC Minneapolis ELC Infographic

Infographic designed as a communications tool for Minneapolis' Early Learning issues and initiatives. Based on the hand-rendered style of sketchnoting and graphic recording, the final infographic is fully digital, allowing for individual elements to be used independantly for specific print and online usage.
Core infographic layout, designed primarily for tabloid-sized printing. The color palette is comprised of digitized matches to my selection of Prismacolor Design markers, themselves selected to mimic the color range of Neuland graphic recording markers.
Individual sections of the infographic; the text is set in Tekton font, while the visual elements are rendered by hand, and are then scanned, Live Traced, and colored in Illustrator. This process gives the client a greater, more versatile range of how the overall scope of the infographic is used as a cohesive whole, and also how each individual section and element may be used.
How it happens; I first break the original Word Doc into sections, identifying definitive visuals and textual passages that can be contracted or broken into smaller, simpler sections. I then doodle - almost impulsively in the manner of sketchnoting - onto newsprint. The newsprint doodles are presented to the client, and upon approval, a digital rough draft is produced. And yes; many cups of coffee are consumed in the process.
Working onto newsprint; by simpling pouring out onto the paper, I can see which visual representations work, which ones can be explored and developed further, and also which visual metaphors I already have in my growing graphic library.
