Schematic rendering. A piece to contain speakers, receiver, turntable and vinyl storage all in one unit. Blue boxes represent open vertical LP storage, speakers on the wings with storage drawers above. There is space on back of the unit to incorporate cable management and an integrated power strip.
Final rendering prior to fabrication (3dsMax and Vray modeling).  Changes from schematic include a lengthening of the carcass and minimizing the appearance of plywood edges in the interior of the storage boxes.
A custom steel base was created from 1/2" rod and 1/4" x 2 1/2" plate.  Visually the box appears to be simply resting on the vertical plates, emphasized by the extension of the base beyond the box corners.  Additional flat plate is welded in two different planes below the carcass to minimize rotational torsion and allow the carcass to be through-bolted to the steel base.
The plywood carcass consists of 3/4" Baltic Birch plywood.  A lock miter joint was used to create a continuous grain wrap on the outer faces.  New speaker covers were fabricated to maintain consistency in color and spacing with the rest of the cabinet.
The sides, lid and top feature a continuous grain wrap around the piece.  The use of the miter lock joint at the outer corners makes the transitions unbroken.
A Sugatsune lid stay provides a mechanical soft-close for the dust lid.  An 1/8" steel flat bar creates a sleeve display ledge for the currently playing LP .
Flush drawers operate with a touch open latch on undermount glides.  The drawer fronts consist of a back-painted clear acrylic with a sandblasted face.
An auxilary input cord resides in the left drawer to allow digital media playback in a plug-and-play setup.
