DOLOMITES - THE HEART OF THE ALPS

The world-famous limestone giants of the Dolomites are among the most impressive and striking mountainscapes of the Alps. There may be areas with higher peaks but the beauty of these pale mountains is unmatched. Mountains like the Drei Zinnen / Tre Cime have become icons of mountaineering. But the Dolomites are more than just beautiful rock towers. Three peoples are living there: The German-speaking South Tyroleans, the Italian inhabitants of Belluno and Trentino and the less known ethnic group of the Ladins, a small Romansh tribe with a own specific language. Nowadays the Dolomites are a melting pot where Mediterranean lifestyle meets the cultural peculiarities of the Northern Alps. But often enough the Dolomites have been a battleground, too - the last and most cruel time during WWI. So it's a valuable asset that it's possible to visit these mountains without any restrictions nowadays. It's hardly surprising that this area of natural beauty, cultural and historical richness and a wonderful cuisine is ranked high on the bucket list of almost every landscape photographer and mountain enthusiast. This series mirrors the beauty of the Dolomites during the seasons. Follow me on a visual trip to the heart of the Alps.
