CORE year - end of year locket samples.

Lots of Lockets.
These images are of some samples of lockets i made during my end of year project. through making i solve problems, answer questions about materials and making, create new forms and i experiment with colour and composition. during this project i learned that drawing is not always the answer i learned that, for me making and creating with my hands is also a valuable tool and that i like to make things very quickly in order to respond to the most successful samples.
This was the first cardboard locket I made. Its made out of found cardboard its from a series of four lockets.
This is a second locket from this series. It is also made from found cardboard and coffee cup holders.
This suitcase locket is made from an old suitcase I found in a skip I refashioned the leather into a small suitcase locket with memories of family holidays inside.
This yellow plastic locket is made from packaging I had left over from wire I bought. It made me begin to think about disposibility of modern times and the new concept of disposable jewelry.
The plastic is dyed and melted using synthetic dyes in a heat press. Then it is perferated and sewed into using embroidery settings on a sewing machein. The green locket below has a photograph sewn into the centre and this is an image of it held up to the light. these lockets experiment with the idea of changing the locket from having covered images inside to revealing the images on the outside.
This locket is made from a paper plate containing a photograph of my mother and her family, they are italian and she is wearing an irish dancing dress so I made the paper plate appear as a decorative gold irish medal using dye and a sewing machein to embroider and pierce holes.
This is an image of my address lockets being worn in a front garden. The idea behind these lockets was that if u lost your way and your locket guided you home. They are made of cardboard covered in net curtains with the address sewn onto the front and the person who lives there sewn onto the back.
This locket is made from the interior plastic of a chocolate box. i made a series of twenty lockets from the one chocolate box shell.
These medal lockets are made from found cardboard and made into hamsa hands which guard you from the evil eye and bad spirits, I created these while thinking about the poor homeless people who have to sleep on the streets on cardboard, maybe these medals could protect them.
Here are the hamsa hands after they have been weathered and damaged, like the people who sleep on the streets.
