Terrain Design | Truro Skate Plaza

One of Terrain Design's participatory design projects
I got involved with Truro City Council to help re-energise one of their long term projects, a skateboard park on the Hendra carpark site in the city.

I started the project with participatory design workshops with local kids moving onto talks and design workshops with local professional skateboarders. This early investigation helped the City to secure funding and convince local people and planning.

The design took the form of  a skateplaza rather than the more traditional skate park (ramps and bowls). The plaza took characteristics from global skate features introduced by Truro's skate professionals and a desire to make it unique beyond the realms of other UK skateplazas.
Early sketch for the plaza with strange planter rings that circle existing trees, fortunately the Council removed the trees and the planters went as well.
