The Rhyme & Reason Spring/Summer 2013 Trend Report focuses on several different decades of popular American music that were inspired by contemporary social issues and advancements within their various time periods that have once again proven to be relevant within current times. “Legendary Soul” is defined by the sensually glamorous sound of Soul music produced throughout the 1960s, while “Funkadelic Fantasy” reflects on the rhythmic groove and dynamic motion of Funk music recorded in the 1970s. “Humble Beginnings” marks the start of the expressive un-complicated Golden Era of Hip Hop in the early 1980s and “Thug Motivation” is a thorough discussion of anti-conformity and increased social consciousness. The final trend, “Futuristic Bling”, deals with innovative technology and contemporary concepts of the futuristic. Together, these five trends culminate “Rhyme & Reason”.
