Humber INSITU Chair Show - 3rd Place

 

Our team was tasked with designing a chair made exclusively from concrete and bamboo plywood, making the design process partially directed by the properties of the materials. We were able to use glass fiber reinforced concrete, which allowed us to achieve the half inch thickness of the back and legs while maintaining strength. We wanted the user to feel familiar with the concrete but at the same time we included subtle curves and thinness to the design to break the user away from traditional notions of what can be done with concrete.
