"Unconscious Music" measures the movement and duration of one's sleep by recording it with paint. This piece appears like an instrument but instead of making sounds, it creates visual art.
This is both a measuring tool and a container. It contains blank sheets of paper which are stored in the red side for one to use whenever they choose to use the device. Once paper is used, one can collect their pieces as documentation by inserting them into the blue side. When one sees the pieces of documentation, it looks very much like an empty music sheet. The head is printing colorful lines that do not hold notes. Much like the absence one partakes in by sleeping, this shows the absence of music. There’s beauty in it.
It is a common misconception that sleep is for the weak and takes away from the things one could be doing while awake. This device, however, produces beauty only when one is unconscious.
