Making a GODZILLA Cover for IDW

Last year I met IDW Publishing editor Bobby Curnow at a Comic Convention in Buenos Aires, Argentina. From that meeting emerged the possibility of making a cover for some of the IDW titles. It was a hard choice since they work with such a huge number of Comic, Films and Games licenses such as TMNT, X-File, Street Fighter, Transformers, Star Trek, Danger Girl, The MAXX, Rocketeer, etc, etc. I finally opted for Godzilla, since I feel closer to the character for cultural reasons (Im half Japanese) and because It lies in the same universe of many other Tokuhatsu characters I use to watch while kid such as: Ultra Man, Kamen Rider, Power Rangers, etc.

This is my first published work in the American market and it was surprisingly free and relaxed in the making. I usually pick a theme for my illustrations and in this case a choose "scale" over "action" (more common with this character). I sent 3 different proposals and fortunately the one I liked the most was ultimately chosen. Note: the final decition was made by Rui Machida, TOHO Co. Ltd Japan sales manager himself!

It is the Godzilla: Oblivion #1 issue of a new miniseries written by Joshua Fialkov and artist Brian Churilla. I was in charge of the Retailer Incentive special edition variant cover (1 every 10 regular ones) available today in the United States.

An eternal thanks to Bobby for this opportunity, that I hope repeats in the future, and to Godzilla for being the King of the Monsters!
