Lockets
 notebook pages
For my end of year exhibition project I began examining the concept of adornment, in it vast meanings I examined many different ideas of adornment ranging from building fecades to body modification , finally I settled on jewelry as a vessel for adorning the body as I had just inherited a box of gold italian jewelry which contained 4 lockets. These images are of one of my notebooks from my end of year project about lockets. I made 20 different types of lockets  using a vast range of materials. I was interested in recycling and up-cycling objects to have new meanings as jewelry and as lockets which are vessels for carrying memories and loved ones. I was interested in the concept of enclosures and capturing keepsakes to be worn close to the body. I used a variety of approaches which included : melting, piercing, punching, embroidering, dying, bonding, printing, embellishing, ripping, and cutting to create interesting surfaces and forms. the lockets I created originate from many different found objects such as ; lampshades, suitcases, packaging, lids, boxes, coffee cups, plastic packets, paper plates, napkins, cardboard boxes and chocolate boxes.
