The Old Bakehouse along East Princes Street is a prominent site both historically and visually. The visual connection between the ferry and the street facade has led me to propose a link between the seafront and the ‘missing tooth’ of the site by repaving parts of Rothesay’s City Centre. An in-depth study of the island’s demographics and economy has led my concept of reviving the old bakery and reusing the spaces in the existing building to not only accommodate, but also financially sustain the local cultural arts scene. The Old Bakehouse will also function as an exhibition space for the resident artists of the Arthouse. The screen gateway reveals to the visitor a courtyard before entering the new gallery. The gallery extension - a lightweight and translucent structure will maintain the integrity of the existing brick structure.
