Cheung Chau Island, Hong Kong
Duration: December 2012 – Ongoing
Status: Tender
Client: Private developer

A 10-unit villa accommodation perched on a slope overlooking the coast of the island.
The design is based on preservation of the site’s qualities by respecting the slope’s contours with minimal intervention. Site vegetation was surveyed and documented and the design of each villa works around the existing trees. The challenges of this project were not only the site constraints but also the strict requirements imposed by the local council.
I was involved in the design development and preparation of tender drawings with the submitting architects in Hong Kong. My tasks also included designing the interior of each villa. The scheme’s design parameters were based around the visitor’s experience of the site. Local and raw materials are used to enable them to be transported on site with ease, as well as for a visual relationship to the site.
