YR2/ Herbalist Center - Concept Development

Brief:
This project is primarily concerned with the challenge, responsibility and potential of designing within the context of an existing building. In addition, the project highlights fundamental issues of spatial longevity, accentuating the temporal responsibilities a design must embrace.  In executing a lasting intervention within the framework of an existing building, the designer negotiates a long-term relationship between the existing and the new.  Issues of site, context, community, sustainability and function become central to the design process.

Lincoln College wishes to expand its facilities for the Herbal Medicine course.
The Herbal Medicine course provides a comprehensive education and training in the principles and practice of herbal medicine, the ‘energetic’ understanding of the cause of illness, the therapeutic actions of medicinal plants as well as the orthodox disciplines of anatomy, physiology, pathology, nutrition and psychology. It is integrative in approach, linking traditional herbal medicine with modern science and holism.
