This project was a part of my Design and Communication class, the assignment was to create a poster that contained a personal mantra. I decided to keep it very simple and use the word “create” as my mantra. I was able to add more meaning to the poster with the inclusion of the abstract paint in the background, plus it was a great opportunity to practice both my painting and photography skills. I went through many permutations before reaching the final design so I’ve included some of the work I did leading up to the finished poster. Read Less

I began with computer keys, as most of the creating that I do happens at the computer.
These were obviously pretty boring, and compostitionally they weren't great either. Back to the drawing board. The stamps seemed promising, but they would need something else in order for the idea to be fully realized.
Enter mannequin head and paint. I couldn't tell you why I chose these items together, but it ended up working very well. I was also able to incorporate the stamps from above. Compostionally, these were strong, as well as being visually interesting.
By eliminating the shape of the mannequin's head I was able to make a much more conceptual piece. Below is the final poster.
