Typography and the conceptual strategy : The representation of memory
The publication was created with inspiration from a historical document, Palimpsest based on an idea of memory trigger.The concept of Palimpsest, the text had been either scraped or washed off so that the page can be reused, for another document. As underneath of texts are still visible on Palimpsest, I was very intrigued by this historical document and an object as remaining memories.
As the title, library project and the library of memory implies, this project is a visual representation of how memory remains in our brain.The adjectives of memory, distorted, faded, intangible becomes visual expression of memory such as long-term and short term memory.

This project was incorporated with two text, Brief Notes on the Art and Manner of Arranging One’s Books by Georges Perec and White by Hara kenya. The Hara’s White is described and ordered in some way that responds to the Perec’s text and comments on the topic, memory trigger. The two text have in common the theme of organization. In Hara’s philosophy, he talks about Japanese design history and oriental perspectives in space so called, 'beauty of space'. He mentions that the emptiness and the white space are used to make the black letters on a sheet of paper stand out. Based of Hara’s philosophy, I believe how our brain is lied with memories and the concept was applied with the white space on paper with black letters.
Graphical Methodology ::
I burnt the edges of the paper to express distorting memories. I also used this technique on texts.
I used a technique of smearing watercolor in order to represent an image of distorting and intangible of memories.
With a gradient effect, I tried to visualize short-term memory using faded text, and expressed as long-term memory with strong and bold text.
The primary reason of the linear format is to represent an image of the succession of memories.
