The water archive

about collecting water

 

Since 2013 I collect pictures of different water bodies all around Austria and the places I travel. This archive consists of short videos that show the status of the river at the moment I entered it. Important for me in this process is the collecting itself. The passion of collecting, the accumulation and the process of deconstruction are the main components for me in this archive. 

According to Walter Benjamin a collection is closely related to its collector and can only seen in combination. The pictures manifest the personal insights into the thoughts of the collector. They try to capture memories of certain places and encounters. The archive is based on the videos filmed with an underwater camera showing the possibilities of nowadays media to produce a picture of anything, anytime and anywhere. 

For me the archive is also a process of adaptation  of the public space itself.
