Hotaru (the design process)
I wanted to create a custom WordPress theme to practice coding PHP and using WP's template tags. My source of inspiration came from the word Hotaru 蛍, which means firefly in Japanese.

The inspiration board consisted of dark imagery with hints of gold, yellows and a sense of luxury. One of my main inspirations was the branding design for Cendrillon by Jeremy Hall (which you can find here). The main muse for this project was Hotaru Tomoe from Sailor Moon. :3
I always get a sense of luxury and high fashion from the Art Deco era. So, the logo I decided to go with is a firefly made of diamonds. The typography I chose for the theme are Montserrat and Playfair Display.
The final PSD mockup for the theme's front-page is based on a 12-column grid layout. All content and images can be edited by the user using the WordPress CMS.

Stay tuned for the post of the full layout, plus a link to the live project! :)
