Atlas of Contemporary Networks

"We've always been forced to assume that the planet was non-dynamic, simply because we couldn't approximate to our temporal life any of the mutations that belonged to a geological time scale. Now we can measure the shifts, tremors, and distortions of the ground, almost in real-time, at the micro-scale of invisibility. A network of satellites orbiting at an altitude of 5,900 kiometres above ground relentlessly monitors the drifts of continental plates with sub-millimetre precision–without which any of the systems that rely on exact GPS coordinates would be completely impaired"
