Map of the Canterbury region identifying Christchurch's UPT school and the proposed in Lyttelton.
Impression of the mixed-use gymnasium - A dynamic environment suited for a range of occupations. The slight raise in the roof allows daylight to filter through the inverted and exposed structures, promoting the outward focus of education.
Impression of the entrance way beside the Gaol Steps showing student activity. The structure extends out towards the existing fields where it is regularly used for market days - now able to adapt to the modular zoning structure beneath the roof garden.
Section Views of the Main School showing the proximity to Lyttelton Normal School. The advantage is to share office, maintenace and facility resources between the two. The excavating of the lower level of the school does not impose on the surrounding housing.
The deployment of the two HUB classrooms are situated on the threshold of the city and forest region - a mental statement to the beginning or end of an expedition. The floating barge classroom is docked at the local bay just West of Lyttelton and promotes education of waste, recycling and philosophy.
