Alpha Mode: Alphabet Book

Alpha Mode
La Mode Alphabétique
Fashion has always held a special place in my heart. I have followed certain designers for years; watched as their careers grew and developed creatively. In my designs and photography, I draw upon their work for inspiration. From the outré designs of John Galliano to haute couture’s enfant terrible, (the late) Alexander McQueen. They play with textures, colours, patterns and themes to create a cohesive and creative vision, something I strive to do in my creative career.

I decided to pay tribute to the many couturiers, who have inspired me all these years, with this alphabet book. I have restricted myself to the use of only two typefaces: Berthold Bodoni Antiqua and Park Avenue. I feel both typefaces have an intrinsic fashion-like quality. The Park Avenue typeface has wonderful swashes and embellished stems that make it perfect to illustrate loose and light fabrics. Additionally, Bodoni’s thick stems and fine serifs make beautiful contrasts in shapes and folds, especially the italic cut of the family.
