Atmosfera, Dal niente. 6:50

A rather static atmosphere: an acoustic horizon that confers the experienced time an air of suspended duration.
Activated with a simple breath of a visitor, a multiplicity of new sound sources magically invade the room, acoustically creating micro spaces within the existing space.  A loose, fluctuating volumetric structure  – a dome of sound, which elevation, richness of resonance and time of reverberation are the projections of the initial gesture’s intentionality – unfolds for a short moment, and then dissolves without leaving a trace.
A study of perception as inherently spatial. The notion of  ‚felt volume’ as a sculptural experience.
Temporalization of space.      Transparency.      Ethereal  constructions  with air pressure.
Sound  as  a  radical  form  of  materiality.

Unseen Surfaces
2010-2011

Generative radio art work, variable with the wind. Shortlisted proposal for a new permanent public art commission. Location: Giratoire de la Caroline, Route Suisse, Tolochenaz (VD), Switzerland.

Unseen Surfaces, 1:47 (demo)

Unseen Surfaces, 2010-2011. The antenna.
Materials: brushed stainless steel , automatic circuit breakers, main switch 220V AC line, fan, custom-modified anemometer, mac mini, FM 5 watt transmitter, FM (5/8 lambda) vertical antenna; power supplies, connectors.

In the expanded perspective of the transmission range of an FM antenna situated at the center of the roundabout, Unseen Surfaces is an augmented threshold, whose dynamic and immaterial boundaries require human interference to be activated.
Acting as a hyper-local landscape revealer, the work demands a new specificity for the territory in a sonic materialization process that articulates visible and non-visible surfaces in favor of a global, polyphonic perception of all its environmental components.

The ideas of Natura naturans and Natura naturata permeate each other in the soundscape composition, which evolves as a mutable acoustic topography, inside of which every surface is treated as a dynamic, sensitive membrane able to register the transformations and events that traverse it: the vibrations on the asphalt due to the transit of vehicles create unexpected, accidental, temporal frames while the seasonal variations of wind –captured by sensors– render the interactive device organic as well as part of an ecosystem in continuous transformation.

Music for Distances
2009

Proposal for the Historisches Museum Baden (Switzerland) within DAS OHR DER ZEIT- Projektwettbewerb.

Music for Distances. Historisches Museum Baden (Switzerland), 2009.  Floor plans and sound sketches.
Entirely made with pre-recorded and electronically processed sounds from the metallic stairway in the Erweiterungsbau’s main entrance, the environment starts with the resonance of the spiral staircase, obtained through low-volumetric frequencies emitted by two subwoofers located at its ends, to continue on the four floors of the castle. Situating rays of medium-high, linear frequencies using uniquely prepared hyperdirectional loudspeakers (provided with lenses) in order to create sensitive zones of listening , visitors are invited to walk, modulating —quasi improvvisando— timbres and volumes with their pace and orientation.
An airy architectural performance and a nomadic listening experience.

Variations of Transparency
2011

Selected proposal for a temporary artistic intervention at the Clinique des Grangettes, Geneva, Switzerland.

Variations of Transparency, 2011
Sound Fieldscape #2. Graphite on paper, dimensions: 42 cm x 60 cm.
Conceived as a dynamic web of interconnections, constantly open and modifiable, the work is an evanescent soundscape, structured as a vertical garden.  Activated by users’ proximity, an adaptive synthetic landscape of breeze and leaves sounds –diffused by small loudspeakers installed in the19 patios – will animate the internal façade of the clinic, that will become a performative interface between the architecture and the surrounding environment.
