初心忘るべからず／Don't forget your first resolution, or remember your embarrassing failure which you made at very beginning of your career.

I participated in an event which is called Adobe Creative Jam Tokyo Vol.2 on March 19th .

This event had an unique system which they introduced the theme in very beginning of the competition to each teams of two, then we had to create something within 3 hours and tried to exhibit and give a 2 min presentation.

We competed against 5 contestants to win the Grand prix. 

It sounded like“iron chef” the TV program.

 

3月19日に行われたAdobe Creative Jam Tokyo vol.2に参加しました。
このイベントは当日にテーマを発表してからわずか3時間で何らかの作品を作り2分間で発表（プレゼン含め）し、優勝者を決めるというものです。

 

I formed my team named “Shinitonight” with my partner, Kimimasa Inazumi, who works as a stop motion animation director.

We spent almost 1 hour for brain storming and 1 hour for preparation, and then 45 minutes to shoot stop motion and 15 minutes for editing.

We barely made it on time.

 

仕事仲間でもある稲積君将くんとユニット”Shinitonight"を結成し、イベントに臨みました。
結局１時間をブレストに、更に１時間を準備に費やし、４５分間でコマ撮りを撮影し、１５分で編集するという荒技で、何とか時間内に間に合わせました。

 

The given theme from Adobe was  “初心忘るべからず”.

it means “All artists should remember your embarrassing failure which you made at very beginning of your career”.

This was made by legendary ancient Japanese Nou actor called Zeami and this is the true meaning what exactly Zeami said.

He told us to “Remember your embarrassing failure”, because it will motivate and improve yourself and that you will not make same mistakes ever again.

However, nowadays most people misunderstand for, “Don’t forget about your initial intentions, be pure like a beginner, and stay hungry”.

お題は『初心忘るべからず』。
世阿弥の言葉で本来の意味は『初心者の時の惨めな失敗を忘れるな。そのような惨めな思いを二度としたくないという思いで励め』という意味。

しかし現代ではほとんどの人がその意味を『初心のピュアな気持ちを忘れないようにしよう』と捉えています。

 

The video and its entirety has several different meanings based upon the viewers.

One is an artist running away from their embarrassing failures.  Here, the booger would be representing those artists, as for the human, would be those embarrassing failures.   

On the other hand, the artist is trying to remember the meaning of being an artist.  Here, the booger would represent the original intentions such as passion, curiosity, etc. The human represents an artist who is trying to regain them by chasing the booger.

本来の意味と現代の人が思う意味に差があるように、このビデオにも幾つかの意味をもたせました。
一つは『作りて』が初心者の頃に味わった『惨めさ』から逃れようとする話。
鼻くそを『作りて』、人物を『惨めさ』の象徴として描きました。
もう一つは『作りて』が『初心の気持ち』を取り戻そうとする話。
鼻くそは『初心』を、人物は『作りて』の象徴として描きました。
