Senior Child Community Mentor Center

Inspirational Photos and Color Scheme
Philadelphia is looking to build a local community mentor center in South Philadelphia that supports the local needs of the community. A historic warehouse facility has been picked for the location. Philadelphia is partnering with a non-profit community based organization, senior/child mentors, which serves both senior citizens (55+ years) and school age pre-teens (5-12 years). The organization's philosophy is based on the concept, "It takes a village to raise a child." The non-profit organization will help run and develop future programs for the community. In addition to the center focusing on building senior/child mentoring relationships, to a limited capacity, the facility will also serve local community needs through programs, classes, and small events.

Wayfinding "encompasses all of the ways in which people orient themselves in physical space and navigate from place to place." The plan has been organized based on wayfinding and inspiration from Rittenhouse Square. The color scheme paired with natural materials creates a balance of fun and playful with sophisticated and organic.

A personal goal to achieve LEED Gold was acomplished. A total of 63 points were earned. A few of the points included: surrounding density and diverse uses within a quarter mile radius, provided bicycle parking and shower stall, captured rainwater and reuse, reused existing building materials, used low-emitting materials, and thermal comfort.
