ABOUT THE PROJECT
For my Subculture class assignment, I chose to explore further and deeper into the Emo Subculture & interprets it through an object.
Emo is a term applied to highly emotional people, mainly teenagers. Their emotions are extreme, for example, when they are sad; they are way too sad and when they are happy they are extremely happy.
Emos are often lost due to various reasons and it is not that they cannot be guided or helped but they choose not to seek help or talk to people about their problems. Sadness attracts them.
INSTALLATION PIECE
The maze symbolizes a journey of emotions that an emo goes through and how he/she is trapped in it. Though mazes are complicated and have an indefinite pattern yet there is always a way out. To highlight the idea of how their emotion is trapped with no way out, I used a slab of wood to shut that opening and in the middle of the maze a red sticker representing an emo.
With the help of the brochure I have tried to create a journey by making the maze a map. I have used the GPS pointers and placed them differently on the maze to show 4 main reasons of them becoming into emos and how lost they feel.
