Project Description
For this project we were assigned to create a Public Service Ad (PSA). These kind of ads are to raise awareness about a specific topic such as the negative consequences of smoking, the danger of texting and driving, or driving while intoxicated. In my case I decided to create an ad that focuses on Cyber-bullying. Cyber-bullying has been an increasing problem, especially among teenagers, that has even lead to some suicidal cases. Living in the media world we live today, I felt this was an important topic to work on.

After designing my PSAs in Adobe Illustrator, I used a free logo mock up to help me see how my logos would look like when printed. This was the result.

I was pleased with the compositions and variations I created for my cyber-bullying concept. I used commonly known symbols in the web to help my illustrate that the topic was cyber related. Using a crying emoji was a clever way to illustrate the pain that people feel when they are being bullied over social sites or text messages. My third poster even has the “like” hand Facebook uses for their site. I used that famous reference to enhance and empower my message. By changing the thumb direction going down, it creates the “dislike” effect, which is also referring to those victims being bullied in the social media sites. I think my compositions are simple but have an effective and clever message because they use icons and symbols that are globally recognize by most of us and they cleverly connect with the concept I am trying to portrait.
Sketches
During this stage of the project I came up with several different potential ideas. Starting from cell phones that become weapons, to punches that come out of a computer screen. However, I decided to use something even more global. Cyber bullying occurs mostly in social media sites, and we access those through phones, tablets, laptops and other devices, so I thought that I wanted to create a concept that would work for all of those different devices. This is why I concentrated on emojis, because we can use those in text and social media sites, so it includes all of the devices. Later on I also added global known symbols such as the mouse arrow, click hand, text bubbles, and the "like" Facebook hand.
