I wanted this piece to feel vibrant and messy, yet neat and intriguing. I decided the best way to do this and achieve a truly natural feel was to use acrylic paint to create the backdrop. I cut out the silhouette of Shrek's face and adhered it to the board, masking it out with tape. Using the paint, I applied a few wash layers until the texture and colors were just right and then removed the tape and face mask to reveal the white negative space you see which houses the title and author credits. Copy was added in Adobe InDesign after light retouching in Adobe Photoshop.
