My entry for the Penguin Random House book cover competition 2016. Adult Fiction category - A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess.
Inspired by a drink mentioned within the first few pages of the book 'Rum and Cherry Brandy Mix', consumed by Alex and his Droogs in the Moloko bar, I decided to base the cover around said drink. The LED light is to represent all the torture and terror that happens in a flash in the middle of darkness, the light is reflected in the drink because the Droogs often attack once they are suitably refreshed. I captured the hand drawn aspect in the typeface because the story is from Alex's point of view, and the typewriter style type is to represent the news, and the formalities that Alex is put through in this non-conventional new way of reforming him.
