Working with the Alzheimer's Society of Nova Scotia, I developed a storyboard that represented a real couple that was living with mid-stage Alzheimer's disease. I sat in on an interview with the couple, then created this seven page storyboard that reflected one of their average days, while highlighting some of their struggles.
The story:
Bob has mid-stage Alzheimer's disease, and his wife, Helen, is his full-time caregiver. Helen is 75, and Bob is 76, and they have been together for over 50 years. Helen has arthritis in most of her lower body, and her wrists.
Bob is a pre-diabetic and has to have his food intake carefully monitored. They stick to a rigid daily schedule, as the familiarity helps Bob navigate his days. They keep very active together, both physically and socially. Helen has just started getting respite care a few times a week, mainly so she has the extra time to keep up with the errands and house chores.
