Storytelling in Immunology

Storytelling is a huge part of medical illustration. The illustration of processes, from large-scale surgical procedures to small-scale molecular processes, is an asset to any medical illiustrator's skillset, since so many biological and medical concepts are dynamic. In this project, I was tasked with designing a storytelling diagram that outlined an immunological process. I worked with a professor in the immunology department at the University of Toronto, whose research required some visual support for a presentation she was going to be giving at a conference this upcoming May.

My professor outlined a few major objectives for this project:
(1) Execute a project based on the needs and desires that the client provided.
(2) Design and refine a conceptual illustration depicting events occuring at cellular and molecular scales.
(3) Learn and execute the cel-shaded rendering style.

I hope to post some process work for this piece at some point, because it went through quite a few iterations before I came to my final product. But for now, here is what I came up with... See if you can follow the process, even if you're not a science n3rd like me!
