BRANDING AND ADVERTISING FOR SPORTS EVENTS

This is a small selection of projects in which I was lucky to work with different Sports National Federations and promoters in Mexico.

My personal motivation to take on these projects is the social benefits that sports provide. My intention in all of them is to attract the attention of those people that normally do not practice sports and make them connect with them.

V NORCECA VOLLEYBALL CIRCUIT
(North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation)

As this event was mainly addressed to college students, I decided to use as central element a young athlete in a position that conveys the dynamism, tension and intensity of the sport. In the background I added some brushstrokes that seem to follow the trajectory of his jump, reinforcing the idea of movement.

For the text I chose a relaxed typographic set, with fonts that remind of the handwritten notes and sketches commonly done by the students in class.

MEXICAN BEACH VOLLEYBALL CIRCUIT (CMVP)

The CMVP is a free event that takes place in the main beaches of Mexico every year with the purpose of attracting the general public to volleyball while enjoying the beach in a festive sports ambiance.

For the logo I used an abstraction of a volleyball ball spinning, formed by curved lines that refer to the waves of the sea. It is completed with the letters “CMVP” written in a simple font that communicates the name of the event keeping the symbol as the center of attention.

To promote the event I created some illustrations in a washed out style, combining pale green and blue shades in a way that simulates the wear effect caused by the exposition to the sun and sea water. The athletes appear in black and white surrounded by beach elements and some lines in the background that recall the rays of sun over the blue sky.

FIRST AIBA YOUTH WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
(International Boxing Association)

Thanks to an initiative driven by the Mexican Boxing Federation, Guadalajara was selected to host the first edition of this international event, for which I had the opportunity to create the identity.

The logo shows the silhouette of a boxer in combat position surrounded by a garland and strips with the name of the event. The color palette includes different golden tones that reference the Gold medal for which the participants compete.

For the promotional materials I created an artistic style illustration, trying to soften the perception of violence commonly associated to this sport. The color palette combines the official red and blue tones of boxing, with texts in the same golden tones from the logo, creating contrast with the background and reinforcing the idea of an event that gathers the world Boxing elite.

As official typography I selected a heavy font that in contraposition with the illustration, projects the strength of the athletes during the competition.

COPA JALISCO & ARTISTIC GYMNASTICS GALA

The logo of this events takes its colors from the Olympic rings and combines them in the stylized figure of a gymnast in a posture that shows the magic and unique equilibrium of this sport. The name of the event is integrated in a light, but balanced and solid font. The words COPA and JALISCO are linked alluding the fluidity of the movements of the contestants.

The illustrations for the promotional materials show the silhouette of gymnasts in representative postures, with leaves flying around that represent the freedom of movements in this discipline. The background in grey tones provides depth to the image and highlights in forefront the shape of the athletes.

As the Gymnastics Gala was celebrated simultaneously with the Cup, we used the same graphic elements to link both events.
