Urban Beekeeping: NYC
Urban Beekeeping: NYC is a short documentary that explores the growing urban beekeeping movement in New York City and focuses on the stories of Tim O'Neal, creator of the Borough Bees blog, and Kazumi Terada, a novice beekeeper.

Martha Glenn, Brooke Tascona, and I made this documentary for the Design and Technology: Sound and Vision course at Parsons New School for Art and Design during the summer semester 2011. We wanted to address two main questions:

"How are people bringing agriculture and sustainability to a metropolis like New York City?"

"How is the idea of being “Green” touching every part of the world, including large cities where it is difficult to harvest such things."

Our intended audience was the greater population of New York and anyone interested in the urban sustainability movement. We wanted to make this new hobby/trend realizable for everyone and show how it is possible for anyone to become a beekeeper.

The documentary was shot on a Panasonic AG-HMC 150 HD Camcorder and a Canon 7D DSLR and edited in Final Cut Pro 7.

Urban Beekeeping: NYC was featured on Hypebeast, Grist.org, Treehugger.com, and Notcot.org.
