2D KILLED!! is a special effects project which uses rotoscoping (drawing & painting over video)
a technique seen in 2006 film A Scanner Darkly. The premise is a man dramatically transforms into a two-dimensional existence, replacing his physical body in agonizing pain. Thanks to Kelechi Ehenulo, Natalia Onuoha and Renard Smith for their contribution.
The Render Test shows the finished frames without any composite layers. The vectoring design process was later coded into an Action Script and applied to each video frame. Line art was hand drawn frame by frame with my Wacom Graphire4 tablet. The project workflow included Final Cut pro, Adobe Photoshop and After Effects.
These concept images describe the painful and violent transition from 'normal' man into '2D' man as the transformation crawls throughout the characters body.
