The idea behind First Night is to provide a drug and alcohol free celebration of art, music and dance on New Year's Eve. Each celebration has an overall theme that is reflected throughout the event. This year's theme was "Kaleidoscope". Based upon that overall direction I came up with the idea of diverse people connecting under the stars, with an overall emphasis on brightness and a sense of movement. I mimicked the radial symmetry of a kaleidoscope image to further reinforce the theme. 

This artwork was then used as the basis of various program guides, admission buttons, and other event-related marketing materials.
