The visceral Holocaust drama “Son of Saul” has won the Oscar for best foreign language film at the 88th Academy Awards — the second Oscar winner for Hungary. “Even in the darkest hours, there might be a voice within us that allows us to remain human,” László Nemes said.
Son of Saul (Hungarian: Saul fia) is a 2015 Hungarian drama film directed by László Nemes. It is set in the Auschwitz concentration camp during World War II, and follows a day-and-a-half in the life of Saul Ausländer, a Hungarian member of the Sonderkommando.
