CAKE

Final Major Project from my Art Foundation (a self set project) CAKE is a campaign exploring the issue of poverty in my local area,
based around the concept of famine and greed.

The end result of this project was a series of illustrated and typographic t-shirts, posters that became lunch boxes to fill and distribute to those in need and a series of campaign images.

The ideas behind this project were sourced from my own volunteering at a local food shelter and learning about the individuals affected by local poverty. After extensive research I came to the conclusion that our own selfish greed has a huge impact on these individuals.

The average person does not want to offer money to those suffering and in need due to stereotypes of drugs and alcohol, to this fact I posed the question, why not offer food/water/kindness and basic human needs to those in need? Instead of taking a lunch to work with
you and then putting it in the bin so you can indulge in another meal you bought on your way, why don't you take that wasted food out to someone who needs it?

I created a series of sickly and overtly sweet imagery to repulse the viewer and make them feel slightly uncomfortable. I wanted this to provoke their own self reflection that they could actually help this issue, but choose instead to indulge in their own lives instead, ignoring this issue.
