- A Tangible Interaction Exploration -
AirStamp is an experimental project explores the tangible interaction. Our concept is to make stamps on the paper become alive. We use a tangible interface to bring the texts which the user stamps on the board into the middle of a space. Users can even manipulate the texts by doing some simple gestures around the space.

Design
Our final design is consisted of two parts. One is a collection of stamps for users to choose any English characters they want for stamping. The other is a box for displaying and manipulating the texts. On the top of the box is an tangible interface for texts-stamping while in the middle we used the holographic technique to present an air-floating effect of the texts. Users can also control the texts size by opening and closing their hands around the two sides of the box. Blowing constantly to the surface on the back side of the box will erase the texts one by one.

Technical components
Inside each stamp, we have a RFID tag to store the data of each character. Then the RFID reader on the top of the box will grab the data from each tag inside the stamp once it is within the sensing range. Pressure sensors are under the reader for detecting user's pushing-down behaviour which reveals stamping. There are also distance and pressure sensors on different sides of the box for detecting user's movement and blowing activity.
Besides sensors, we have an Arduino board inside the box for receiving the data and transporting it to Processing on the Macbook. By dealing with the data in Processing, we are able to draw and control the text on the screen and then send the drawn image back to the ipad in the box for holographic displaying.
