I was briefed to create new covers for 3 books as a series. My aim was to keep the styles similar but reflect what the books are about using different colours and simple illustrations.
The text of the blurbs on the back covers take the colour of the spines, which is the main colour of the front covers.
On the spines, they’ll be white, but against white backgrounds, they’ll take the main colour from the colour scheme of their books as shown above.
Taking the images I created for the covers, I created white symbols for the spines to be placed above the penguin logo
Similar to the style of the raised fist in properganda, I produced an image of raised forks. I took the phrase “vote with your fork” which meant to make healthier choices when buying food. If people stopped buying junk food, less of it would be produced and would help prevent obesity and diabetes.
I felt that the lotus flower symbolises some of the topics that are discussed in the book, such as it’s unfolding petals representing expansion of the soul, and as the flower grows in muddy water, it represents how things get better in dark situations.
I went for a simpler approach by taking the idea of boxes, and illustrating them in the style of my other 2 covers.
