This project was the first prize winner at the Honeywell Aerochallenge 2016. Under the theme, Flight Planning of the Future, the aim of this project was to reinvent the process of flight planning by providing an intuitive and collaboration enabling solution.
The design solution here attempts to answer the various aspects of flight planning of the future understanding the avionics situation in the future. The solution tries to help the users to visualize intuitively the various flight path variables and enhances the situational awareness of the pilot and expedites the flight planning process.
The design solution eventually conceptualized as The Integrated Smart Holographic System (ISHS), helps in projecting the data more intuitively. This system comprises of “HOLONAV” as the heart, which is connected with various avionic systems (HUD, IHF, and Processor). HOLONAV is a 3D “Holographic Navigation” display where a virtual 3d image is created in a hologram, which enhances the situational awareness. It is helpful in visualizing the data throughout the different stages of flight journey. The data input to Holonav is through Integrated Holographic Flight System (IHF), where the data is automatically uploaded through uplinks and server without any data feeding by pilot. The aviation experts at Honeywell helped us to improve the design further.
