Shortly before the end of World War II, the Jewish singer Rachel Stein escapes from Berlin to take refuge in the Netherlands. She hopes to be safe from the Nazi threat but his hideout was destroyed by an aircraft that drops bombs flying at low altitude. Then try to reach the southern part of the Netherlands, one that has already been liberated by the Allies. But the boat that was to take them to their destination is discovered by a German patrol and its occupants are exterminated. Rachel, who dives into the water as soon as it hears the gunfire, witnesses of yet another Nazi massacre. All occupants, including Rachel's parents and brother, are first killed and then robbed. Rachel is the only survivor.

Come to The Hague assumes the identity of Ellis de Vries and joins the resistance. It is given the job of seducing Ludwig Müntze, the head of the SS security service for the next carpirgli German army moves. But soon Rachel / Ellis falls in love with him. Müntze is not the official typical of the SS and hates cruelty of his countrymen. Rachel / Ellis is torn by doubts when he realizes that Ludwig is not a ruthless Nazi leader and when he discovers that the Dutch resistance has infiltrated many Germans. In the end no longer able to figure out whether to side with the resistance or the beloved Ludwig. The situation becomes even more dramatic when it fails the plan of resistance to release forty partisans imprisoned in the German headquarters. The attempt fails escape into the blood and Rachel flees with Ludwig, drawing dislikes and malevolent judgments by partisans friends.

At the end of the film, Ludwig is being tried by a military tribunal and shot, the Netherlands are liberated by the Resistance but Rachel / Ellis is imprisoned because they accused of collaborating, suffering oppression and violence. Freed by Hans, a resistance companion, she discovers that he is the mole within the group, which has executed hundreds of Jews depriving them of money and valuables with false promises. Albeit from these drugged, he manages to escape and prove once again his innocence. Hans reached the fugitive, hidden in a hearse with the stolen goods, Rachel / Ellis avenges herself and the victims sealing the coffin. The film ends eleven years later in Israel, in a kibbutz built with the money and the precious stolen during the war to his fellow Jews. She has a new family, but as in his youth, has to run to the shelters to save himself from the Arab raids that support the Palestinian cause.
