2015 • LP Identity for the PHI BETA SIGMA album Toso Konta sto Telos.
The mc's Rio and Mani, decide to bring back the PHI BETA SIGMA, a group they created with fellow mc's, during the early 00's.
One of the main objectives of this LP —which was the first album PHI BETA SIGMA recorded since their comeback— was the revival of the last decade's glory, with references to the past of the group but also to the way they started rapping "in the hood", which is no other than Koukaki and Petralona.
The Asyrmatos apartment block —which was designed by Elli Vasilikiotis in 1967, on behalf of the Ministry of Public Projects— was a one-way choice for me, since it is a landmark of the said area and at the same time, meets all the conditions to create in the mind of an "insider" an interesting connection with ghettoized buildings, provided by the social welfare in different european countries with an extensive rap bibliography (UK, Germany and Sweden are amongst them) as we can see in the masterpiece of Mathieu Kassovitz, La Haine (1995),
The use of non-refined silkscreen printing —which was a common method of printing invoices, business cards, various packaging materials and other, basic and low cost items— prepares us for something tangible, casual, perhaps even folk, alike rap.
