Robot Boy El Chico Robot

Mr. an Mrs. Smith had a wonderful life. Eran gente común los señores Bastida
They were a normal, happy husband and wife. Un felíz matrimonio de reposada vida.
One day they got news that made Mr. Smith glad. Una tarde les dieron una noticia espléndida
Mrs. Smith would would be a mom que dio al Señor Bastida una alegría obstétrica:
which would make him the dad! ella sería mamá...¡Y él iba a ser papá!
But something was wrong with their bundle of joy. Pero algo raro había. Algo andaba muy mal.
It wasn't human at all, No era humano el bebé que una tarde nació
it was a robot boy! No era bebé-bebé, que era una bebé robot.
He wasn't warm and cuddly No estaba -ni de lejos- como para comérselo.
and he didn't have skin.
Instead there was a cold, thin layer of tin. Tenía hecha la cabeza de material eléctrico.
There were wires and tubes sticking out of his head. No era tibio ni tierno ni cubierto de piel.
He just lay there and stared, Era pura hojalata, aluminio, oropel.
not living or dead. Se quedaba tumbado con los ojos abiertos,
Muy quieto y muy callado, y ni vivo ni muerto.
The only time he seemed alive at all
was with a long extension cord Pues a decir verdad sólo cobraba cierto
plugged into the wall. ánimo,cierto aliento y aspecto saludable
si se enchufaba a la pared con un largo cable.
Mr. Smith yelled at the doctor,
"What have you done to my boy? Don Bastida, enojado, le reclamó al doctor:
He's not flesh and blood, "¿Qué le ha hecho a mi niño? ¡Dígame por favor!
he's aluminum alloy!" No es de carne ni hueso ni tiene corazón.
¡Lámina de aluminio! ¡Una simple Aleación!
The doctor said gently,
"What I'm going to say Dijo el doctor: "Lo que mi boca le dirá
will sound pretty wild. le podrá parecer sin duda un gran descaro,
But you're not the father pero aún así yo debo decirle la verdad:
of this strange looking child. y es que, señor, usted no puede ser el padre
You see, there still is some question de este niño (quizá niña) tan, tan, tan raro.
about the child's gender, Nos falta aún poner dos, tres, o cuatro sondas
but we think that its father en las venas y arterias de la sufrida madre,
is a microwave blender. pero el papá es un horno, un horno microondas.
"The Smith's lives were now filled por Francisco Segovia
with misery and strife.
Mrs. Smith hated her husband,
and he hated his wife.
He never forgave her unholy alliance:
a sexual encounter
with a kitchen appliance.
And Robot Boy
grew to be a young man.
Though he was often mistaken
for a garbage can.
