Lady Liberty watercolor - ACLU - Michigan

Lady Liberty for ACLU Silent Auction
"Liberty has not Forgotten" Watercolor Painting by April Galamin
I completed this watercolor in the fall of 2006.  It was the first watercolor painting I had completed in....my guess, probably 5- years - give or take.  Yeah, I was so busy with the kids, they were little back then, I just didn't make the time to paint.  Though I was creative in other ways during those years.

When this opportunity came, I took it!
That's me holding the finished Lady Liberty.  I was happy with how she turned out.
I did not strive for realism, but I wanted a lightness to the painting to reflect the hope
of those who leave their homelands to begin a new life here.

Below is a detail of the hand.
I decided I wanted to add details in the background of immigrants, coming in waves as it were.

I painted this in watercolor & donated it to the ACLU of Michigan for their 2006 Annual Dinner & Auction.
