Occidental philosophy holds human nature and rights in the utmost esteem, putting individuals and personality above all things; whereas, Chinese philosophy considers humans and nature as one of the same and that individuals are component parts of existence. We are all transient beings on this planets—that our bodies, as well as the material world around us, are in the process of returning to dust.

Reach. is an anthology of tales, literature and haiku on insects, developed from an illustration project back in 2014, where I finger-painted the bugs with ground charcoal. Driven by the concept of “reverence for life”, this book is an expression of Eastern culture, and a dedication to this considered low form of life. To a personal extent, it is this – a regained consciousness of my own cultural roots.

Between one page and another, there’s a space. Flipping a page over is interacting with this space. When it’s closed, it becomes a shelter. When night falls, the little insects come out to play, safe and sound.
