Map of the Lineal Island
For a graphic design history lesson, we were asked to design an object that will help people to understand what is the Vox-Atypi classification and why it’s useful. I choose to focus on the lineal type family because I think those fonts are the hardest to recognize. So I started to draw a map where every Island represent a group of type. All the cities have the name of a famous font. All the islands are detailed on a separate poster on which you can found some informations about font designers and all the specificities of the font family.
Dans le cadre d’un cours d’histoire du graphisme, il nous a été demandé de créer un objet sur le système de classification Vox-Atypi. J’ai choisi de me concentrer sur la sous-famille des linéales car je pense qu’elles sont les plus difficiles à reconnaître. J’ai choisi de dessiner des cartes où chaque île représenterait une famille de fonte, et où chaque ville porterait le nom d’une police célèbre. Toutes les familles sont détaillées sur un poster séparé sur lequel on peut retrouver des informations sur des designer ainsi que tout se qui fait la spécificité de la famille de caractère.
