instagram filter

For this photo assignment I started in camera raw and made some adjustments to clean up the raw image before taking it into photoshop to make the Instagram filter. I bumped the exposure down a little, the contrast up some, and increased the highlights while also lowering the shadows. I also bumped the clarity up a good bit to help really bring the detail out. Since the photo already had a bit of a blue haze to it thanks to aerial perspective, I chose the Hudson filter technique. I first made a duplicate layer to work on and then selecting just the blue output levels. Then I just adjusted the sliders to affect the level of blue tone that was in both the shadows and the highlights. I then went under brightness/contrast and increase brightness by 24 and contrast to about 31. Next was color balance where I just slightly increase the green and blue outputs. I then saved the image and brought it back up in camera raw to add the vignetting to the image and slid the amount slider to the left slightly to darken the edges. I then reopened the final image in photoshop to crop it, since Instagram images are a square format. The final thing was to give it a border so I used the rounded rectangle tool to draw a border then adjusted the color, feathering, and thickness.
